Thirteen Reasons Why Summary and Character Analysis

I read the book "Thirteen Reasons Why".   In the book theres this boy named Clay, he gets home from school and notices a box. He runs to his bed were the box is and stares at it. He then opens the box and is surprised at what he's seeing. There are 13 tapes inside the box about why Hannah decided to end her life.  Clay then finds out that he is one of the reasons why Hannah ended her life. He's terrified and shocked.   If Clay chooses to listen to the tapes that were given to him, he will find out why he was one of the reasons she ended her life.

Character Analysis: In the book "Thirteen Reasons Why" we meet Hannah.  Hannah is a very Apathetic girl. For example on page 23 she says "I know what you all are thinking Hannah Baker is a slut". She's facing real life and she doesn't care what people think of her. Hannah really never cared to what people labeled her as. So from what she said I can infer that she doesn't care about what people think or say about her. She's also a very outgoing girl. She lives her life everyday like it's her last. Thats why Hannah is one of my favorite character in the book.  Hannah went through a lot.

  1. If Hannah doesn't care what people think, then why does she kill herself and say that other people were the reason? I think you may be missing some of the underlying traits of Hannah. Think about what she did and how she acted. How would you describe that?
